The Miami Heat defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night with a series of late-game surges. Despite keeping the game close through three quarters, Minnesota couldn’t hold on after Miami went on a 12-0 run late in the third quarter, and another 7-0 run midway through the fourth. Nevertheless, the Wolves are in better shape now than they were a few weeks ago, and should be proud of their recent play.
This being their first loss in the last four games, Minnesota players and fans have plenty to look forward to. This great late-season effort could prove their worthiness of having a shot at the playoffs.
The battle for that coveted eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference is tightening up, and from here on out every game counts. Denver has been making a statement as of late winning their last seven straight, while the Lakers are continuing to play inconsistently. If Minnesota keeps this intensity up, that playoff birth could easily be theirs.
Confidence levels in the Wolves locker room are sure to be higher with their improved play since Kevin McHale has taken over as head coach. However, facing a difficult schedule through the remainder of March, it will all be put to the test. Facing Yao Ming and the Rockets, the San Antonio Spurs, holder’s of the best record in the NBA, and the Dallas Mavericks twice in three days, Minnesota definitely has their work cut out for them. |
