| Wolves Ready For Second Half of Season Authored by Jacob Maxson - February 26, 2005 - 2:31 am With the trade deadline come and gone, the Minnesota Timberwolves are exactly where they were this time last week. Some may say they dropped the ball by not making the highly anticipated trades of Latrell Sprewell and/or Sam Cassell, but I don’t believe this is the case. In fact I am convinced that they will be better off with the squad they have now.
Making mid-season adjustments to the line-up can cause friction in team play. It takes time for new players to adapt to the style of game their coaches are accustomed to running, as well as feeling out their new teammates. The All-Star game is a perfect example of this. Even though all the players on the court are the best in the game, there is very little team play, and almost no chemistry.
While friction seems to be a commonplace for the Wolves this season, there is one fact one must not overlook. This is the same squad that reached the western conference finals last year, and could potentially do it again this season. Now that all the trade rumors have ceased, the team can begin to focus on the task at hand, winning a few more ball games and earning a play-off spot.
Sprewell can now prove that he is worthy of that contract he feels he deserves, and Cassell can finally lace up his sneakers again and show that age and experience are a gift. The Timberwolves will benefit more than any other team in the NBA with the passing of the trade deadline. No more talk, no more rumors, just basketball. |
