After a 19 point loss to the Utah Jazz on Friday that keeps them below the .500 mark and in 9th place in the Western Conference, the only direction left to go is up. There is no excuse for a team with this much talent to be performing at such mediocre rate. One can blame the players, Flip Saunders, or the entire front office; however none of these parties deserve all the pointed fingers.
Being a product of the frozen northern tundra myself, I am a long time T-Wolves fan who believes this team has what it takes to turn things around. Fans of all Minnesota teams have had no shortage of heartbreak over the last few years. The Twinkies have been legitimate contenders recently, only to be beaten in the MLB playoffs by the “Damn Yankees” time and time again. While the Vikings have the most dynamic offense in the NFL, their defense couldn’t stop the I-formation of my high school’s football team. And of course, let’s not forget Gary Anderson’s Choke in ’98.
The Western Conference is tough, but the Wolves can still salvage the season with a new voice of reason coming from the bench. NBA fans will soon be reminded that this team is for real, and is a force to be reckoned with. Wally has been playing great ball despite the teams struggles, and KG is not only the best player in the league, but arguably one of the best of all time.
If the T-Wolves sneak into the playoffs, then they will be an absolute nightmare for small teams of the West like Seattle and Phoenix. Most people were predicting a Western Conference Finals match-up between the Wolves and Spurs, so imagine if they battled in the first round.
Kevin McHale has made it public that he will not be a long-term coach, and we all know the man that needs to come in and take this team where they deserve to be. A respected man from Minnesota’s beautiful neighbor, the great state of North Dakota. The one and only; Phil Jackson. C’mon Phil, we need you buddy, and we know you want to be here.
